My name is Jennifer Whitted, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. I attended Texas A & M University - Commerce for both my Bachelor of Science in Psychology (minor in Business) and my Master of Science in Counseling. Throughout my career I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings, including inpatient hospitals, nonprofit community mental health centers, and private practice. Currently I wear dual hats, working in private practice with DTS and in community mental health, where I work primarily with psychosis.

I work with ages four and up and am a Certified EMDR therapist. Additionally, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing in my work with clients. I generally take a humanistic approach, wherein I believe the client is their own expert. My clients would likely describe me as a challenger (in a healthy way) as a means of facilitating growth as well as an assigner of homework, though it is rarely completed! When appropriate, I prefer to use EMDR processing to assist my clients in resolving emotional disturbances. However, I am competent and willing to be flexible in my approach to therapy, and the modalities used will be determined collaboratively with my clients.

I’ve worked with many diagnoses throughout my educational and work experiences, namely psychosis and addictions. I also have extensive experience working with individuals in the LGBTQ+ population, as well as with anxiety, depression, and trauma. Therapy is a safe space where you can discuss life experiences free from judgment.  I'm hopeful to challenge your viewpoints to allow you to live a life you truly enjoy.  So many people believe so much is impossible.  What if it really were possible, and you really could have what you wanted?  Some examples are clients telling me (then overcoming): "I'll never be able to have a relationship with my mom,” “I don't think I'll be able to work due to my anxiety," and "I can't tell anyone else about that."  It can seem so scary to address concerns, but each of my clients responds afterwards, "That wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be."
