Mika Smith-Low (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Supervisor, and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Hendrix College and her Masters of Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington. She is an EMDRIA-certified clinician in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and has advanced training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD through the IOCDF’s Behavioral Therapy Training Institute.

Her extensive mental health career began in an inpatient psychiatric hospital setting, where she worked with diverse cases ranging from acute crisis stabilization to chronic schizophrenia and psychosis, as well as geriatric issues such as dementia and Alzheimer's. Simultaneously, she ran a part-time intensive outpatient program for individuals with substance use issues involving the legal system.

Following her inpatient work, Mika transitioned to an outpatient psychiatric clinic, where she provided individual therapy and initial psychiatric diagnostic evaluations. She also assisted in an initiative to integrate psychiatric care into OBGYN/Maternal Fetal Medicine and Neurology services. Her experience extends to working in an outpatient partial hospitalization program, providing group therapy for primary mental health issues. Currently, as one of the owners of DTS, she provides individual therapy to older adolescents and adults.

Her therapeutic style is characterized by a direct yet encouraging approach, maintaining a casual and informal atmosphere. Mika emphasizes education, welcomes questions and skepticism, and actively challenges avoidance behaviors. She regularly assigns homework and encourages clients to step outside their comfort zones, particularly with exposure tasks. Her therapy dog, Bentley, assists during more challenging sessions.

Mika views therapy as a collaborative effort while recognizing the client as the expert in their own journey. As a therapist, her goal is to provide clients with the education, skills, tools, and understanding needed to achieve sustainable symptom reduction and become better equipped to handle life changes and stressors independently.
