Desi Richardson is a Licensed Professional Counselor who earned her Bachelor of Science in General Studies with an emphasis in Psychology and her Master of Arts in Counseling from West Texas A&M University. She completed her clinical internship with Alliance for Children in Tarrant County, where she worked with children who had experienced sexual abuse. Throughout her career, she has supported high-needs populations and individuals navigating significant life transitions, healing from trauma, and working to better understand how their past experiences continue to impact their present lives.
Desi works with adolescents (16+) and adults, providing a warm, affirming environment where clients can feel safe, supported, and understood. She has experience working with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, self-harm, ADHD, PTSD, women's issues, and concerns related to sexual abuse. She is also passionate about working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community,
Her therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered Therapy, while incorporating techniques from Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Desi believes that therapy should be both supportive and practical. She is known for her direct yet compassionate style, often incorporating homework, challenges, and real-world application to help clients continue their progress outside of sessions. She also values the role humor can play in the therapeutic process and strives to create an environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves.
Desi believes that healing often begins when we recognize that many of our thoughts, behaviors, and coping patterns were learned through our experiences—and that change is possible. Having personally experienced the positive impact therapy can have, she is passionate about helping others feel seen, heard, and empowered as they work toward healthier, more fulfilling lives. Her goal is to combine both professional expertise and genuine human connection to help clients navigate challenges, build resilience, and create meaningful change.
When she's not working with clients, Desi enjoys cross-stitching, sewing and quilting, spending time with her dogs, playing board games, and sharing good food with her spouse and family.
